I worked in illustration, graphic design and advertising. I did projects for clients such as; Kellogg's, Stop and Shop supermarkets, State Street Bank, Fidelity Investments, and Target Stores.
Working in the advertising/design industry was exciting for about a dozen years, and then the web came beckoning. |
I first discovered the web as an outgrowth of another project.
I had written a book for young children about adoption. There were drawings, and spaces within the drawings for people to put family pictures into, to personalize it for every family that uses it to tell thier story to thier children. It became clear that the way to do this was to self-publish and sell it on the web.
It's still online. click on the image below to see the book, and all of the pages:

That's how the adventure began, and how one art form begat another.
I've spent the past 10 years designing websites, working with very interesting people, and teaching web design, both informally, as I consider educating my clients to be an important part of the process, and formally at a number of Boston area colleges. (Mass. College of Art, Brandeis University, New England Institute of Art & Design)
That's the nutshell.
Underlying all of this is a love of the visually interesting and well-designed, and throughout my carreer, it's been my main focus. When I begin a website, I first get an understanding of what my client wants the site to say, so that I can create the initial look, which is what makes the first impression, and draws people in.
That's the effect, and function of good design – to bring the viewer in to what you have to say and that's what I keep in mind as I work.
